The Problem: Create a magazine using 4’ by 4’ cut outs of other magazines and Lev Manovich’s essay “What Comes After Remix?”
My Process: After laying out all the various cut outs, I saw that the photos could be organized into groups of Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet, Pink, and Black/White. Once I noticed this, I decided to use those groupings to make my magazine have a sort of “rainbow” effect in terms of organization. Since I knew how I wanted to organize my work, it then came down to actually laying it out. While I laid out the magazine, I ended up deciding to fragment the photos even further into slivers, in order to really decide what is shown and what isn’t on my magazine.
Overall: Although this magazine ended up being really experimental, I like how it turned out and my use of color as a thematic element.
